That's right, today I turned 24. Seems like only yesterday I was 23
So how am I going to celebrate? I'm 260 miles from home. I will begin by solving problems in quantum mechanics and then move on to ensemble theory in statistical mechanics, all in preparation for a major exam in a few weeks. Throughout this process I will make several delectable cups of tea to help me muse. Then in the evening I will play table tennis with a few Chinese players. After that, I will resume studying and delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe and the art of tea
Life doesn't get better than that, does it?
Cheers

hope it was a good one, exam studying aside
Hope you had a great day...only 24!!?? Wow, I remember turning 24, back in 1995
Take care, have a tea on me
I'll be sure to have multiple teas
What do you think of the D700? Looks like there's some issue with vertical lines at high iso...
What's really interesting me at the moment are what's happening with the D3. Thom Hogan says Nikon are definitely going to announce a new camera soon, and it will be a top end camera but it WON'T be called a D3X.
There also seems to be some subtle upgrades inline for the D3, maybe a D3S or something to lift it back above the D700.
But more interesting than that, there's the upgrade of the shooting buffer [link] which also makes it possible for the D3 to handle bigger files. Now there are loads of rumours that Nikon MAY make it possible to upgrade the sensor from the D3 with a higher MP sensor. According to thom hogan it is mechanically possible, but of course it's not something the user could do. Like this buffer upgrade it would work that you send your camera to Nikon and they convert it into a higher mp camera (and of course you'd pay for this).
I don't know anything about part costs or stuff, but it's entirely possible that such a thing could mean that it would be cheaper for people to upgrade their D3s without buying another camera, but Nikon wouldn't lose money as they wouldn't have the production costs of producing a new camera.
If this is true, it would change the whole way digital cameras are going, and would be fantastic news for everyone. Of course, in 3 or 4 years time the next camera will be a whole new thing with different AF, metering, LCD etc.....but if the next camera is just the same as the D3 except for the sensor then it would mean I'd be able to upgrade in a couple of years without spending a huge amount of money.
Interesting times ahead, I think by the end of August we'll know a lot more
But you're right, every few years they'd still need to release new bodies with better af, metering, handling, etc, and perhaps to accommodate even better options.
Nikon also should update their line of lenses. Pixel peepers can spot many drawbacks in the current line of lenses on the new ff bodies, things that weren't necessarily as discernible with film.
happy birthday
