Description
An evening dream - everything must have been an illusion;
I cannot explain clearly even one part of what I saw.
Yet in the dream it seemed as if the truth were in front
of my eyes.
This morning, awake, is it not the same dream?
- Ryokan, 18th century
I shot this sitting down on a wood pier with the sunset at my back
Nikon D200

Ah, it’s always a pleasure to write a critique for a beautiful photograph!
The photographer was really creative! Instead of taking an obvious photo of the sunset, he saw beauty on the opposite direction. The perspective created by the clouds gives a feeling of amplitude to the photo. The volume of the trees on the left break the symmetry and grant movement to the composition.
At first I wasn’t really fond of the dark mountains. However, on a second look, I find that they broaden the horizon line, inciting the impression that the photo will continue to the right.
Nicely done!
